The Future by Neassa

 Hi guys,

I know Saoirse wrote a post about her future with the business, what we see happening in the future and where we want this to go. Although I love the sound of here future, I have my own path ahead of me, and it's a bit different.

If you haven't read Saoirse's plans, they are:

  1. Writing blog posts and maintaining website (year-round, but specifically during COVID and winter)

  2. Car boots sales on Saturdays/Sundays during the year and a pop-up stall in summer. (After COVID and while I’m still in school)

  3. Pop-up stall as a part-time job (while in college)

  4. Actual shop (after graduating)

As Saoirse mentioned in her post, right now we are living the dream. Just two normal sisters doing what they love to do. How could that be a bad thing? I am happy and content with we are doing right now, but don't feel as though that will always be the case.

I, of course, want to stay a part of this business for as long as I possibly can, but I also have always wanted to be a teacher. I love the sound of Saoirse cat café bookshop, right now that's my kind of paradise and I would (and will) be her biggest customer.

You might be wondering, why a teacher? Well, I have always been told that I am great at explaining things, and I know that this is a great quality in my current teacher. Also, I love promoting reading and who has more influence on young people's reading then there teacher?

So, to break down our future:

I will be an equal partner with Saoirse until she leaves college, should this last for that long. That means I will be a part of the maintaining of the website and blog, which is what we are doing right now and will continue to do  for the foreseeable future.

I will also be a part of the car boot sales, something that I am very excited for, as that is more my type of stuff. I love working hands on with the books almost as much as I love having exactly what someone asked for. These are my favourite parts of all this, and the main parts of a car boot sale!

As for the part-time job, I hope to have a part in that, but when Saoirse goes into college, I will be in fifth year and busy preparing for my exams, so I might not have a huge part at that point. I will make sure to be available in the summers and school holidays, though!

Then as I said before, when Saoirse leaves college, I plan to drop out and become a teacher. Again, I will always be available in school holidays and will never have no part in the Book Corner, it's just that the time will come when I'm a customer.

I hope that this was interesting for you all

Welcome

Hi! Welcome to the Book Corner Blog. This is a blog all about children’s books. As children ourselves we are experts on the subject and we want to share our knowledge with all of you. We know that many children associate reading with school. We hope that this can change since there are so many books out there that are nothing to do with school but still very, very good. On our blog we hope to introduce children and young adults to books that they will want to read instead of ones they think they should read. We are also hoping to include some author interviews. We have so many questions to ask the authors of our favorite books. There are some books that you read and they just fill you up with questions. We want to get answers to those questions. We hope that our blog will cover those topics as well as many more. We will try to post at least once a week and we would be overjoyed if you were to read some of them.  Saoirse and Neassa at The Book Corner

Why you don’t like reading

Why you don’t like reading In this blogpost we are going to talk about a lot of common reasons why people don’t like reading and how to get around these problems. We know that there are so many different reasons that people don’t like reading and we are only going to cover the basic ones. Teachers Teachers are actually a huge problem when it comes to children reading. They often make their classes read books that they don’t want to read as part of their work. These books are usually classics or books that are quite complicated and very “wordy” [meaning that they have a lot of words and phrases that are uncommon or rarely used]. Not all teachers are like this, though. When I [Saoirse] was in sixth class [fifth grade] I read “Holes” by Louis Sachar. This turned out to be one of my favourite books so that ended up being a good thing. Another problem with teachers is that they rarely have very good or interesting books in their class library. For us, this is a big problem becaus

Reading Consistently: A Quick Guide

Well hello there :), We are gathered today to discuss something that is an amalgamation (spell check? absolutely) of two topics I find quite interesting: reading (obviously) and habit-building. Yes, yes I am a nerd. I have decided to embrace this fact today. I just find it so intriguing how some people have certain habits while some don’t. Of course, many habits are built when someone is a young child, but I think everyone has the power to build new, or change old, habits given the correct tools. So, today I am going to talk about building a reading habit. This is, in my opinion, one of the best habits you can have. It has many benefits, which I’ll do another post on, but briefly some are: increased empathy and vocabulary, better quality sleep and less stress. Just before jumping in, I want to just say: I am no expert. BUT I think I can provide valid advice on building reading habits, as I have a healthy reading habit, experience building my own habits and I have (nerdily) watched coun
